Inspired by artists like Jenny Holzer and Barbara Kruger, Androxx searched for a fresh approach to the marriage of photography and text. “I finally landed on the notion of a chalkboard,” he explains. “It dovetailed with the idea of lyrics and other words being presented as lessons. That’s when the concept gelled.”
"I became obsessed with the notion of how deeply a pop song can resonate. How it can be a constant throughout one's life. You will change. You will get older. But that song won't. And it will remain perfect.”
Working with some of the world’s most beautiful faces and bodies, Androxx released his first piece “I’ll Be Your Mirror” (an arresting image of supermodel Sebastian Sauvé and the iconic Warhol Velvet Underground LP cover) in 2012.
The provocative mashup proved irresistible to the underground art scene, who helped make his 2013 NYC solo show, the 2014 (IN)FORM group show and Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s 2017 Night Fever event runaway successes.
As the events of 2020 unfolded, a planned gallery show gave way to Pop Life – eight pieces released virtually in conjunction with 1883 Magazine (UK). In 2022, the Cover retrospective in Larvik, Norway, celebrated a decade of the artist’s work.
Androxx’s new series is Secret / Identity.
